The story of one image

The most conventional shot in the book, lit properly

Cascade Terraces, Miami — day 56 of the studio series.

Cascade Terraces — mixed-use tower in Miami, Florida, USA.

If only one image from Cascade Terraces survived, this is the one we would keep. It is a mixed-use tower on Biscayne Bay in Miami, and this is the frame the rest of the set is built around.

Golden hour, from across the water, the whole height in frame. It is the most conventional shot in the book, which is exactly why the light has to be the most carefully judged.

Cascade Terraces is 42 storeys: stepped setbacks every twelve floors giving four planted terraces, pale limestone piers and deep-set bronze windows. The crown is a stepped ziggurat crown with a planted rooftop terrace. Those two decisions are the whole silhouette, so every wide frame in the set names them again — a tower that changes shape between images is a tower nobody trusts.

Inside, the set runs one palette — honed travertine, wide white oak, warm plaster, champagne bronze, sand linen — so twenty frames read as one address rather than a folder of pictures. People stay small and busy. That consistency is the difference between a set and a slideshow, and it is the part clients feel long before they can name it.
