Ninefold's brick base sits straight on the dockside setts under the old cranes; above it the finned shaft steps back twice as it rises. The set is unapologetically London — a wet Tuesday at the arcade coffee kiosk, a rainy Sunday in the walnut club room, Sunday roast forty floors up, and a cold clear evening at the crown.

01 / The brief
Make it feel like it has always been there
Canary Wharf is a hard place to look new in. The base had to feel like dock warehouse; the shaft had to be light against a grey sky; and the interiors had to feel British — walnut, green marble, brass, rain on the glass.

Two buildings in one silhouette
We treat the base and the shaft as one anchored silhouette but let each frame choose its subject: brick and arches at street level, fins and sky above. Weather is a character — most frames are just after rain.
